“Forcing” registration to post an answer, even though there is the option of using any of many popular social networking tools you might already be registered with, requires an extra step, but at least it means spammers will have a harder time in posting (they are still successful, of course, but it's easier to catch them).

Then there is the question of “what comment system is better”. I don't know! Disqus has at least an interesting side-effect — it creates a whole new thread/comment system *outside* your blog, so people can continue the conversation on Disqus if they prefer. It automatically figures out trackbacks, re-tweets, and links on FriendFinder. Disqus also gets better indexed by the search engines, too — and you get twice the indexing that way! (once on your blog, once on Disqus) In this era of fighting for a high PageRank, it means using as many tools as possible Well, yes, I know — this all goes beyond writing blogs.

Nevertheless, I wish that Disqus would include RPX authentication, which supports so many more social networking tools to log in, instead of offering just two…

I found the one I tried by searching for friendfeed in xstreet. Do you have a list of all the services that ping.fm can connect to in your ads? Doing so might let more people find your product.

Having now tried to comment using Disqus, which showed me as already logged in when I came to this page, and been told something went wrong which was not my fault, but wasn't supposed to happen, an annoyingly cutesy Disqus error message, which replaced the text in my comment, giving the distinct impression that not only had it not posted my comment, but it felt the need to eat the text I copied as well so I couldn't copy it and send the comment through some other means without retyping it, I have now logged out from Disqus, and logged back in, and we'll see if it works this time.

I think it was actually easier when one wither posted comments anonymously or filled in their name, email, and website. You didn't have to think about whether to use Disqus or Facebook or what have you, and posting generally worked. I have similar problems with other “Post As” systems at numerous sites.
